Antique Cobblestone
Cobblestone were frequently used in the pavement or early streets. Paving with cobblestones allowed a path to be used year round. This product replaced stones with quarried granite setts in the nineteenth century. Setts were relatively even and roughly rectangular granite laid in regular patterns. They gave a smoother ride for carts than cobbles.
Early Urban Cobblestones
Boston, Chicago, New York City and Philadelphia had many of their older streets use cobblestones that replaced wooden planked street. The cobblestones allowed horses to get a good grip.
